Legal framework

Commercial debts in the UAE are governed primarily by the Commercial Transactions Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2022), with a general ten-year limitation period. Enforcement runs through Dubai Courts, the DIFC Courts (for parties opting into DIFC jurisdiction), ADGM Courts in Abu Dhabi, or the onshore Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. Common remedies include payment orders, garnishment of bank accounts, precautionary attachment and — for absconding debtors — travel bans registered with the Ministry of Interior.

FAQ

Is DECOL licensed to collect debt in the UAE?

DECOL Services works through UAE-licensed partner law firms and collection agents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. All enforcement action is filed by locally admitted counsel; DECOL manages the case, communication and reporting end-to-end.

What is the limitation period for commercial debts in the UAE?

Under the UAE Commercial Transactions Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2022), commercial obligations generally have a ten-year limitation period. Certain claims — cheques, carriage, insurance — carry shorter periods. We review each file before placement.

How long does it take to recover a debt in Dubai?

Recent, undisputed B2B invoices are typically settled amicably within 30–60 days. Where legal action is required, a payment order and execution through Dubai Courts usually takes 3–6 months; disputed cases go through the standard court track.

What are your fees?

We work on no-win / no-fee for most placements. Commission typically ranges from 10% to 25% of the amount recovered, depending on age, size and complexity. Legal filing costs are agreed upfront.

Can you enforce against a debtor who has left the UAE?

Yes. Through our 100+ jurisdiction partner network we pursue absconded debtors in their new country of residence — GCC, Europe, Asia and beyond — combined with UAE-side travel bans and execution where applicable.
